ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR B.Sc. GENERAL NURSING
There are five main categories of students who qualify for admission into the BScN programme
Direct entry
• SSS/SHS Graduates
Mature entry
• Practicing State Registered Nurses (Mature Students)
• Practicing Registered General Nurses (Diploma)
• Practicing Nurse Assistant Clinical
• Practicing Nurse Assistant Preventive
The entry requirements for these categories are as follows:
WASSCE Candidate:
An aggregate score of thirty-six (36) or better comprising (A1-C6) in three (3) core subjects i.e.
English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and in three (3) elective subjects (A1-C6) in any
of the following programmes listed below:
SSSCE Candidate
An aggregate score of twenty-four (24) or better comprising (A-D) in three (3) core subjects i.e.
English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and in three (3) elective subjects (A-D) in any of
the following programmes listed below:
NOTE: A combination of SSSCE and WASSCE results are not acceptable

Mature candidates
All Practicing Mature candidates in good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of
Ghana must:
- Have at least three years of working experience as a nurse.
- Have a written reference from the immediate supervisor/relevant persons.
- Pass an entrance examination/interview conducted by the university.
Note: In addition to the above, all NAC/ NAP candidates must have SSSCE or WASSCE results
with at least, 6 credits in all required subjects or must have done an access course programme
organized by the College. The access program should comprise Mathematics, Integrated Science,
English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. This should be organised for a period of six
weeks. Candidate must pass the access course examination in order to be admitted to the BSc
Nursing program.
Entry Level
The entry levels for the various categories are:
- SSS/SHS/NAP Level 100
- SRN/NAC Level 200
- RGN (Diploma) Level 300
- Selection of Candidates for Admission:
The final decision on the suitability of candidates for admission to the programme resides
exclusively with the institution’s Admission Board. - Student academic progression and graduation:
Admitted students will go through a programme of study for a minimum period of eight trimesters, during which the student will be required to complete the stipulated credits. - Foreign Students: International applicants may be admitted based on qualifications from their countries from which equivalence shall be determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission(GTEC) and submitted to the university. Evidence of proficiency with the English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English speaking countries.
Such students shall submit their application for admission either by mail, by fax, online, or in person.
